Society of Proto-48 Enthusiasts - Bibliography

Since the middle 1930's, when model railroading really began to expand as a hobby in the United States, there have been model railroaders in all scales who have built their models to finer standards than the norm for the time. Therefore, in 1940, when the NMRA adopted 1-1/4" (O) as the track gauge for ¼" scale models there were some who used the more correct 1-3/16" (Q) gauge for their models. From that time to present there has been an ever increasing sophistication in railroad models, including adherence to finer or exact track and wheel standards, especially in the larger scales. The results of this movement are the newly adopted NMRA Recommended Practices for PROTO:XX down to PROTO:48 and fine scale practices for all major smaller scales.

The following is a list of some of the references and/or articles that have been published in the model railroad press dealing with models built to finer-than-normal standards in 1/4" scale or related to fine scale in some way.
